CTC Foundation, a part of Concurrent Technologies Corp., has sponsored the annual Great Americans Day Essay Contest for the eighth consecutive year.
The essay contest encouraged students from three school districts to write a two-paged essay on why Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence, is considered a great american, CTC Foundation said Tuesday.
The topic is in line with the Great Americans Day Citizenship Forum held at the University of Pittsburgh in Johnstown.
The organization added that Windber Area High School’s Jonathan Guaetta and Holly Chappie were awarded as first and second place winners and received cash prizes donated by Conway Jones, CTC Foundation chair.
“The American Dream is something to which we all aspire and is something that the Great Americans Day Citizenship Forum helps to promote,” Ed Sheehan, CTC president and CEO and foundation president.
“The Forum brings together students, businessmen and women, teachers, entrepreneurs and more to intermingle and remind us all of what it takes to be a Great American,” he added.
