DRS Technologies and robotic vehicle technologies provider Autonomous Solutions Inc. have forged an agreement to build automated systems for U.S. Army route-clearance vehicles.
The team will automate the High Mobility Engineering Excavator platform as part of the Army’s Route Clearance Interrogation System Type I program, DRS said Friday.
Joseph Matteoni, vice president and general manager of DRS’ sustainment systems business unit, said the collaboration aims to eliminate the need for manned route-clearance missions in order to maintain crew safety.
The Army will have the choice to operate the Army-legacy HMEE Type I vehicle in an unmanned mode under the RCIS program.
