The Energy Department has opted to extend its contract with Battelle for an additional five years to to operate the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and will not hold a competition for a contract to help run PNNL, Tri-City Herald reported Friday.
Annette Cary writes that the current contract will expire in September 2017 and DOE looks to continue the five-decade partnership with Battelle in an effort to offer continuity for PNNL’s workforce of 4,350 employees.
PNNL’s main campus is based in in Richland, Washington and the lab has an annual budget of close to $1 billion.
The Herald reports DOE and Battelle have to negotiate the extension and both parties will discuss updates to the contract’s description of work in order to account for current technologies.
