world blue mapEsri and the Pacific Disaster Center collaborate to monitor the spread of Zika virus across the globe with a company-built mapping tool.

PDC shares the mapped information about the characteristics of the virus and the breeding grounds of Zika-carrying mosquitoes with health services and aid responders, Esri said Wednesday.

“Esri GIS technology specifically allows us to characterize the Zika virus outbreak and contextualize it for decision makers,” noted Joseph Green, a health risk specialist at PDC.

“Our maps describe the distribution of suspected cases at national levels throughout Latin America and the Caribbean,” Green added.

Esri develops technology intended to generate maps based on various data resources and PDC uses such technology to incorporate data layers such as hospital density, rain and vector programs to maps.
