The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency has launched its Geospatial Information Systems fair in support of NGA’s Partners in Education program to provide more than 100 high school students a means to exhibit their GIS projects.
NGA employees examined the projects of young geospatial inventors and provided purpose, design, methodology, execution and creativity feedback to assist the participants’ final works, the agency said Monday.
“It was energizing to see how these high school students are using data-rich spatial analysis to explore phenomena like obesity and public safety,†said Jon Breece, NGA geospatial intelligence analyst.
Charles Sabatier, a science specialist from Fairfax County, Virginia’s public school district, said that participants utilized the Esri ArcGIS online tool to find, collect and digitize data to aid the projects presented to the professional audience.
NGA added that Brittany Beverly, NGA PIE program lead, said that she encourages all agency employees to take part in at least one PIE event per year.
