MarkLogic’s Amanda Mason has said her experience in the U.S. Air Force has helped her coordinate groups from both the private and public sectors to provide students of cybersecurity learning programs with “hands on experiences,†U.S. News & World Report reported Friday.
Tom Risen writes Mason, director of strategic programs for the intelligence community at MarkLogic, made the remarks during a discussion at the U.S. News STEM Solutions Conference.
Sheila Stewart, a senior system engineer at MarkLogic, also joined Mason to discuss the company’s plan to launch a pilot program that seeks to encourage high school and college students to pursue careers in the field of computer science.
Justin Joseph, vice president of talent acquisition at Leidos and one of the panelists, told event attendees that students should be encouraged to seek computer science-related internships and that recruitment managers should focus on “the value and quality†of individuals instead of their ethic and gender backgrounds, Risen reports.
Rick Ledgett, deputy director of the National Security Agency, also discussed gender and diversity issues that NSA currently faces when it comes to employee recruitment from science, technology, engineering and math fields.
