A General Dynamics business unit has delivered the second LNG-conversion-ready tanker to American Petroleum Tankers on Thursday as part of a contract to build five such tankers for the petroleum transportation company.
General Dynamics said Friday its NASSCO subsidiary built the Magnolia State tanker using a design by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering subsidiary DSEC.
The 610-foot-long product carrier, which is the fifth ship that NASSCO has delivered in the past eight months, has a cargo capacity of 330,000 barrels and designed to generate a 33-percent fuel efficiency.
General Dynamics added that DSEC built several features into the tanker, such as a G-series MAN ME slow-speed main engine, dual-fuel-capable auxiliary engines and support for future LNG fuel-gas system installation.
Magnolia State is part of the Jones Act fleet and has obtained a PMA+ notation from the American Bureau of Shipping to attest the tanker’s compliance with engineering design standards that take into account human factors.
