Zumwalt-Class_(DDG-1000)A subsidiary of General Dynamics has delivered the first of Zumwalt-class guided missile destroyers to the U.S. Navy for the service branch’s multi-mission surface combatant force.

The Navy said Friday it accepted delivery of the USS Zumwalt after a series of tests on the ship’s hull, mechanical and electrical, damage control, ballasting, navigation and communications systems.

General Dynamics’ Bath Iron Works subsidiary designed and built the ship.

The 610-foot Zumwalt is the first Navy surface combatant vessel to feature an integrated power system that distributes 1,000 volts of direct current across the ship, according to service branch.

DDG 1000 also incorporates a battery of two advanced gun systems designed to launch long-range land attack projectiles and holds eighty advanced vertical launch system cells for Tomahawk missiles, Evolved Sea Sparrow missiles, standard missiles and vertical launch anti-submarine rockets.

The ship is scheduled to be commissioned Oct. 15 in Baltimore before it moves to its homeport in San Diego for the mission systems activation stage.
