GemaltoA Gemalto subsidiary has received a six-year contract to build a turnkey platform for the motor vehicles division of the Colorado Department of Revenue to produce state driver’s license and identification cards.

Gemalto said Monday its unit Marquis ID Systems will also provide a central issuance and personalization system for the Colorado DMV to print polycarbonate-based IDs.

The system will be designed with MIDS’ polycarbonate technology that works to allow personal data and images to be laser-engraved into the card body.

Gemalto added the system will also employ the Sealys Window Lock technology designed to protect the card holder portrait from being compromised.

MIDS will collaborate with Colorado state and county agencies to educate DMV operators and law enforcement personnel about the switch to polycarbonate credentials.
