Data management and cloud storage solutions provider NetApp has appointed Steve Smith, Equinix CEO and president, to its board of directors — which is comprised of 10 other members.
Smith started in Equinix in 2007 after work as senior vice president of HP services, where he managed the consulting and integration service and technology deployment and supported business groups, NetApp said Wednesday.
The company noted that Smith had also worked for companies such as Lucent Technologies and Electronic Data Systems and was also the “aide de camp” to the office of the commander in chief of the U.S. armed forces in the Pacific.
“Steve’s 25 years of broad experience and work as an active CEO will add a valuable perspective to our board of directors,” said George Kurian, NetApp CEO.
“He has a wealth of deep technology expertise and understanding of how IT environments are evolving.”
“Steve is both a veteran and a visionary and will further strengthen our board’s breadth of talent and background,” added Mike Nevens, NetApp chairman of the board.
