WastewaterEnerTech, a unit of Kuwait’s investment authority, has selected IBM and Waterfund to deploy their jointly developed cloud-based business service to model the country’s water technology investments.

IBM said Thursday the Waterfund Insights Service was designed to provide data visualization services through the IBM cloud to support the decision-making of water utility managers, corporate water managers and government agencies worldwide.

The company said EnerTech will also utilize the Waterfund Insights Service to analyze, measure and forecast the financial performance of other technologies that could support water management in Kuwait and the Middle East.

“Kuwait is more than ninety percent dependent on desalination to meet the needs of its growing population,” said Abdullah Al Mutairi, EnerTech CEO.

“Managing our water resources is a critical consideration and it’s important to have an understanding of the true cost of water production and to evaluate the efficacy of new water efficient technologies,” he added.

Waterfund Insights Service uses the Water Cost Index financial benchmark and IBM research strategies to calculate the “true cost” of water production in cities, IBM said.
