BodyCameraThe Justice Department has issued a request for information in support of the National Institute of Justice’s upcoming market survey that aims to identify commercial body-worn cameras designed for use in law enforcement operations.

DOJ’s justice programs office said in a Federal Register notice posted Thursday the survey will work to help law enforcement agencies’ purchasing agents in their procurement decisions through the assessment of data on such cameras.

The agency wants information on BWCs including its physical dimensions, video and optics components, data upload, audio functions, battery, GPS and privacy features.

Vendors should also supply information on the cameras’ software intended for video data management and storage, including search and tagging functions, video analytics and video authentication and security.

DOJ also seeks information on the products’ installation, usability and training requirements.

Responses to the request for information are due May 31, according to the notice.
