More than half of 500 U.S. information technology security professionals who responded to a Computing Technology Industry Association survey said their companies have changed their security approaches based on IT operation changes.
CompTIA said Tuesday its Practices of Security Professionals study also found that 43 percent of respondents prioritize other technology needs in their companies over security.
“Far more than half of all companies have adopted cloud computing and mobile devices,†noted Seth Robinson, CompTIA senior director of technology analysis.
“This suggests that many companies are embracing new technology solutions without taking the corresponding actions necessary to build a proper defense,” he added.
Robinson noted that IT professionals should communicate requirements for modern security and acknowledge the potential cost of weak defenses as well as discuss specific action that should be conducted to address security challenges.
The association also found two-thirds of companies have programs to train their employees in security and 56 percent plan to seek out an IT security certification for technology staff.
CompTIA conducted the survey in February and March online.
