Boeing and Northrop Grumman have won separate cost-plus-fixed-fee contracts from the U.S. Air Force to build digital signal generation technology for Global Positioning System satellites.
The Defense Department said Monday that Boeing will help the Air Force to mature GPS-based positioning, navigation and timing systems through the Orbit Reprogrammable Digital Waveform Generator program under a $16.2 million contract.
Boeing will perform work in Huntington Beach, California, through Jan. 24, 2021.
DoD said Tuesday. Northrop’s contract is worth $13.5 million and calls for the company to validate if an ORDWG design or architecture can support various navigation signals and modulations and operate in a contested cyber domain.
Northrop will carry out work in Redondo Beach, California, and is scheduled to finish Nov. 24, 2020.
The Air Force Research Laboratory received nine offers for the ORDWG program and the service branch will use its fiscal year 2015 and fiscal 2016 research, development, test and evaluation funds to finance the effort.
According to a FedBizOpps notice, the Air Force seeks a digital waveform generator that can integrate with an L-band GPS navigation payload.
