Internet connectionA Raytheon subsidiary has been awarded a $1.3 million contract from the Department of Homeland Security‘s science and technology directorate to help build a tool for DHS to search multiple websites at once.

Raytheon BBN Technologies will develop online search technology as part of DHS’ Privacy Preserving Federated Search and Sharing initiative, the department said Tuesday.

DHS seeks deployable privacy-enhancing tools through the project.

“S&T is working to ensure the department can perform federated searches across multiple data sources while continuing to protect personally identifiable information consistent with our policies,” Reginald Brothers, undersecretary for science and technology at DHS.

Partha Pal, a principal scientist at BBN Technologies, will lead development of PPFS2 technology for the department.

The business will initially focus on integrating advanced cryptography and policy reasoning functions, then explore methods to expand the scalability of the integrated platform.
