Polycom’s Sean Berg: Public Sector Agencies Seek Collaboration Tools for Unified Communications, Workflows

Sean Berg, vice president for Polycom’s public sector business, has said a “workplace of the future” concept continues to evolve for public sector agencies as mobile device use grows and millennials enter the workforce.

Berg told Public Sector View in an interview posted Thursday that one trend he observes is growth in usage of video collaboration platforms that work to facilitate workflows and business models.

Public sector consumers are deploying content-sharing platforms and consumer-grade video tools in order to support unified communications, he said.

Berg also noted the availability of new platforms designed to facilitate interaction at huddle rooms across public sector agencies and the demand for collaboration tools that are easy to use and deploy.

He said organizations that plan to adopt collaboration technologies for use in the workplace of the future should develop a strategy, involve partners with experience in the deployment of such tools as well as consider ease of use, workflow and integration.

“Focus on the use cases… different people have different requirements and need to interact in different ways,” Berg noted.

“Finally, do this very methodically, go from a proof-of-concept to pilot, deployment and don’t rush the rollout.”
