Parsons has landed a 58-month radio system installation contract with three five-year renewal options from the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
The company will manage the design, delivery, installation and integration of an interoperable Terrestrial Trunked Radio system for 6,250 buses and support vehicles that will comply with the public safety radio standard Project 25, Parsons said Tuesday.
Michael Johnson, a Parsons group president, said the company aims to mirror its progress with the Federal Communications Commission to deliver an MTA service that will address the agency’s technical requirements and meet its communications requirements.
The TETRA system combines dispatching and two-way mobile radio capability and works to offer fast and secure voice and data communications.
Parsons added that it will also provide 1,250 portable radios and the communications infrastructure  in support of the new system that uses 35 radio sites.
