An Orbital ATK facility in Iuka, Massachusetts has reached the 500-unit production milestone for a large composite rocket structure the company makes for a Boeing–Lockheed Martin launch services joint venture.
OA produced a boat tail structure –Â Â the 68th of its product-line that includes heat shields and interstages –Â for the United Launch Alliance‘s Atlas V launch vehicle, the company said Thursday.
Steve Earl, vice president and general manager of Orbital ATK’s aerospace structures division, said that the company looks to continue its contributions to its clients in the ULA, U.S. Air Force and the Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle program.
OA added that it has also produced 28 Delta II and 404 Delta IV large composite structures such as nose cones and aero skirts, fairings, payload attach fittings and diaphragms, interstages, centerbodys and thermal shields across 106 ULA launches.
