Northrop Grumman has unveiled an online competition that aims to incite students’ interest in science, technology, engineering and math education through makeovers of classrooms and technology laboratories in U.S. public middle schools.
The second annual Fab School Labs competition will award up to $100,000 in grants to five winning schools to help them equip their classrooms and labs with learning tools and equipment related to STEM education, Northrop said Thursday.
“Access to the latest technologies and learning tools can help our teachers be more effective in motivating the next generation of innovators, which is why we created the Fab School Labs contest,” said Sandra Evers-Manly, vice president of global corporate responsibility at Northrop and president of the Northrop Grumman Foundation.
School administrators and teachers at public middle schools are encouraged to submit applications with corresponding photos and videos to the website www.FabSchoolLabs.com from May 1 through June 17.
Flinn Scientific, Northrop’s contest partner, will help the winning schools draft design plans for their new labs and classrooms.
