airport towerThe Department of Homeland Security will hold an event in the Silicon Valley, California region to discuss several opportunities for technology companies to support U.S. Customs and Border Protection missions.

DHS’ Science and Technology Directorate and CBP aim to explore potential partnerships with startups, entrepreneurs and small businesses during the Silicon Valley Homeland Security Day on April 29, the department said Thursday.

“Steady growth in international trade and travel drives [CBP] to innovate the way we provide security and facilitate commerce across our borders,” noted CBP Deputy Commissioner Kevin McAleenan.

The agency works to screen more than one million international travelers and approximately 72,000 cargo containers each day as well as monitors aerial, ground and maritime vehicles that cross U.S. borders.

DHS’ S&T Directorate invests in early-stage commercial technologies for department personnel to implement across its enterprise.
