Finmeccanica subsidiary DRS Technologies has landed a $51 million subcontract from General Dynamics to provide support services for the U.K. armed forces’ tactical command, control, communications, computers and intelligence system.
DRS said Monday it will provide rugged tactical displays, rugged computing technology upgrades, and associated services for the General Dynamics-supported Bowman tactical communications system that works to support secure radio, telephone, intercom and tactical internet services in a modular system.
Peter Hurst, managing director for DRS in the U.K., said the British army will use the technology for strategic planning functions on the battlefield and supply network computing systems along with a common roadmap from the U.S. military’s Mounted Family of Computer Systems.
Deliveries will commence in July 2017 through the collaboration of DRS’ U.K. business unit in Surrey and its network computing and test solutions organization in Florida.
