cyberwarfareThe Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has asked for proposals from industry to develop a secure messaging platform for the U.S. military that is accessible via a web browser or standalone native application. proposals on the for potential a Secure Messaging Platform.

DARPA said Friday it also wants the platform to separate the message creation from the message transfer within a secure courier to the reception and decryption of the message.

DARPA released the request for proposals on the Small Business Innovation Research program’s website.

The agency cited risks of cyber attack, rising maintenance costs of infrastructures, synchronization failures, data theft and corruption risks to current platforms as areas it wants to mitigate.

Phase one of the program will require a potential contractor to create a model for the decentralized messaging platform, experiment with encryption schemes, evaluate hardware in an effort to update security, define product feature set from the application and platform perspectives and develop a blueprint of the platform architecture mapped to DoD constructs.

Solicitations on the SBIR website will close on June 22.
