Atlas North America has received a potential $48.3 million contract to manufacture explosive and inert neutralizer rounds for the U.S. Navy in an effort to help meet the Littoral Combat Ship program requirements.
Atlas will work to produce the Seafox shipboard mine neutralizer system and perform engineering services in Germany, Florida and Virginia through April 2017, the Defense Department said Thursday.
The base contract is valued at $11.2 million, DoD added.
Seafox is a fiber-optic guided system is designed to dispose of naval mines and other ordnance found at sea.
The Navy uses the technology to identify mines with the use of its onboard sonar and camera and to transmit live data to the Combat Information Center.
Atlas North America is a subsidiary of Atlas Elektronik of Bremen, Germany, that builds remotely operated and autonomous underwater vehicles.
