AeroVironment has integrated an encrypted communication link to into the company’s fielded Switchblade tactical missile systems through an upgrade named Block 10C.
The company said Thursday the Digital Data Link will work to help the system use frequency bands and minimize signal interception to support secure communications for warfighters.
Block 10C is also designed to extend operational ranges through other DDL arbiters including AeroVironment’s Puma AE unmanned aircraft system as well as support the communication of mission plans between a Switchblade and a UAS, AeroVironment added.
Kirk Flittie, AeroVironment unmanned aircraft systems vice president and general manager, said Switchblade Block 10C is the product of a collaboration between the company’s team and its U.S. Army clients.
Flittie added AeroVironment is working on future upgrades for the system.
Switchblade Block 10C will be manufactured and delivered by AeroVironment and warhead teammate Orbital ATK.
