Abt AssociatesAbt Associates has landed a $51.7 million contract from the United States Agency for International Development – Jordan to help support maternal and child healthcare services with focus on Syrian refugees in Jordanian communities.

Abt Associates said Friday the contract requires the implementation of the Health Service Delivery Activity program alongside the Ministry of Health and non-government organizations.

Abt said the HSDA program seeks to provide healthcare services for women of reproductive age and children below five years old in an effort to reduce maternal and newborn deaths.

Abt added it will help address issues affecting the delivery of healthcare such as gender bias, non-transmissible diseases and nutrition.

Diana Silimperi, Abt vice president for international health division, noted the company’s 15-year history of supporting Jordan’s health system and further said Abt aims to assist Jordan in the achievement of national sustainable development goals.

Abt’s partners in the HSDA program include Jordanian health and quality improvement institutions as well as the American College of Nurse-Midwives and the Population Council.
