A new Technavio report predicts the U.S. Defense Department market for training and simulation platforms to hit $13 billion by 2019 and be driven by the adoption of cobra curved display systems designed for flight simulators.
Abhay Singh, an industry analyst for Technavio’s defense and technology research, said Friday U.S. service personnel have also used curved display platforms for tank simulation exercises as well as to train vehicle and joint terminal attack controllers.
“[W]ith simulators and trainers becoming more realistic, there will be a shift from live on-field training to virtual training by simulators and trainers,†Singh added.
According to the report, the increasing demand for unmanned aerial vehicles, rising number of training aircraft and helicopters, and updates to military equipment will also help drive market growth.
Technavio also cited the U.S. Army’s investments in communications programs such as the Warfighter Information Network – Tactical and Joint Tactical Radio Systems initiatives.
The report said the contracts awarded by the U.S. Navy to Boeing to build P-8A Poseidon planes are expected to boost the simulation and training market for DoD.
