krollKroll has appointed Stephen Kopeck as associate managing director for its cybersecurity and investigations practice, where he will report to practice leader Tim Ryan.

The risk mitigation services provider said Monday Kopeck, a former special agent with the U.S. Secret Service, holds experience in work with law enforcement and other private sector companies.

“He brings extraordinary levels of technical expertise as well as proven practical experience in handling the complex cyber threats that impact corporations and governments alike every day,” said Ryan.

“Throughout his career in government and private industry, Steve has skillfully handled a variety of complex investigations and has worked effectively with clients across multiple industry segments to formulate cyber-defense as well as mitigation strategies,” added David Fontaine, CEO of Kroll and parent company Corporate Risk Holdings.

Kopeck joins Kroll from Verizon, where he served as team lead for the research, investigations, solutions and knowledge division for four years.

He previously spent 10 years with the Secret Service and held an assignment in the agency’s cyber intelligence section, where he helped investigate cyber-related crimes.

He has also served as the Secret Service’s liaison for the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team at the Department of Homeland Security and brought together Secret Service and US-CERT resources in criminal investigations and operations.

Kopeck started his law enforcement career as a police officer of Fairfax County in Virginia.
