MissileDefenseScience Applications International Corp. has awarded a subcontract to a Sypris Solutions subsidiary to design and develop an electronic encryption device to control access to land-based intercontinental ballistic missile silos.

Sypris said Wednesday the 22-month contract covers services in areas such as design, development, documentation, integration, testing, certification, training, maintenance and logistics for the Missile Electronic Encryption Device program.

Sypris Electronics will be responsible for MEED’s technical aspects and efforts to obtain a National Security Agency certification and SAIC will oversee program management functions.

Debra Delise, vice president of engineering and business unit lead for information security solutions at Syrpis, said the company will aim to help the U.S. Air Force in the service branch’s efforts to build a new system that defends its ICBM assets.

Louisville, Kentucky-based technological service provider Sypris offers products and services in fields such as aerospace and defense, transportation and manufacturing.
