A Safran Group company has secured a contract of an undisclosed value to provide tactical infrared binocular systems to the armed forces of a NATO member country.
Sagem said Thursday it will build more than 200 JIM-LR long-range multifunction  binoculars and associated remote-control terminals for the military customer.
JIM-LRs are designed with an open architecture and electro-optical technology and intended for target designation, surveillance, intelligence and border and coastal protection operations.
According to Sagem, the IR binocular system can also operate via a military or a civilian network and integrate with the company’s north-seeker instrument Sterna.
Sagem manufactures the device at a company facility in Poitiers, France, and has provided more than 9,000 JIM-LRs to military customers worldwide to date.
