MissileDefenseA committee of the U.K. Ministry Defense is considering extending the agency’s contract with MBDA for continued work on a new air-launched missile technology for the British military, Defense News reported Thursday.

Andrew Chuter writes MoD seeks permission from the agency’s investment approvals committee to move to the next phase of the agency’s Selective Precision Effects at Range Capability 3 program.

The program is currently focused on missile technology assessment, Chuter reports.

The report said Dave Armstrong, managing director of MBDA’s U.K. operations, noted at a press briefing the agency the company could receive a SPEAR Cap 3 development contract in the second quarter of 2016 if the committee approves a business case that MOD has submitted, Chuter reports.

MBDA’s SPEAR surface attack weapons, powered by turbojet engine technology, are designed to launch from F-35s and operate in all weather conditions.
