Raytheon and United Arab Emirates-based boat maker Al Marakeb have formed a new joint venture to manufacture unmanned surface vehicles for use in international security and marine defense missions.
The joint venture will focus on the production of surveillance buoys, H-series boats and other types of USVs, the companies said Sunday.
Chris Davis, president of UAE operations for Raytheon International, said the company expects the partnership with Al Marakeb to help address technical gaps related to the development of USV systems and subsystems.
USVs are designed to provide additional target detection capability to destroyers, frigates and other naval ships.
