Orbital ATK has announced plans to expand the engineering operations of its space systems business in Gilbert, Arizona, and expects the project to create up to 155 new jobs.
The company said Friday the project will add roughly 60,000 square feet of engineering space to its manufacturing complex for civilian and military satellites.
“Orbital ATK has been developing satellites in the Gilbert area for more than 25 years through our heritage business,†noted Rick Kettner, a site director at Orbital ATK.
The firm’s Gilbert facility currently employs 261 workers.
The proposed expansion is also expected to help increase science, technology, engineering, and math career opportunities in the state.
Orbital ATK also runs facilities in the cities of Chandler and Mesa and says its aerospace and defense sector contributes about $38 billion to Arizona’s economy each year.
