A joint venture of Louis Berger and an MWH Global affiliate company in Turkey has been awarded a $4.2 million contract to support a European Union-funded project that aims to modernize Turkey’s water resources.
Louis Berger said Wednesday the contract requires the JV to assess Turkey’s drinking water resources and treatment plants, including the legal and institutional aspects of the sector.
The company added the JV will work to recommend ways to identify possible discrepancies between Turkish and EU drinking water quality and standards, provide five conceptual designs for water treatment system modernization, launch related awareness campaigns and conduct personnel training.
“There are few environmental issues in Turkey today that are as important as management of the country’s potable water resources,” said Jesper Damgaard, Louis Berger senior vice president and managing director for Europe.
Damgaard added the team will work with the ministry of environment and urbanization in Turkey to support the country’s drinking water industry.
Findings from the JV’s assessment will guide future EU-funded water projects, Louis Berger said.
