Louis Berger and Ammann & Whitney have been given the Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award by the American Society of Civil Engineers for the design of the Dragon Bridge of Da Nang, Vietnam.
Louis Berger said Friday the 666-meter bridge was among six projects that were previously recognized as finalists for the award.
ASCE presented the award during the annual Outstanding Project and Leaders Gala in Arlington, Virginia, on Thursday.
The companies previously received an excellence award from the American Council of Engineering Companies New York for the bridge project in January 2014.
The Da Nang People’s Committee chose the two companies to design the Dragon Bridge following an international design competition, Louis Berger said.
The bridge, which was unveiled in 2013, features a single-arch support system that depicts a flying dragon over the Han River and offers weekend fire and water-spouting shows to attract tourists, the civil engineering company noted.
“It was important to the Da Nang People’s Committee that the Dragon Bridge play both a functional and aesthetic role,” said Nick Ivanoff, Ammann & Whitney president and CEO.
ASCE conducts the awarding ceremony every year to recognize one civil engineering project with significant contribution to the civil engineering industry and society, Louis Berger said.
