Leidos and the National Institutes of Health have developed a website that aims to match unfunded biomedical research proposals with alternative funding opportunities through public-private partnerships.
The team has created the Online Partnership to Accelerate Research portal, which works to assess proposals based on research priority areas and allow participating organizations to fund research not originally funded by NIH, Leidos said Thursday.
Jim Pannucci, Leidos director for life sciences, said OnPAR aims to bolster the scientific funding environment and accelerate the development of technologies for global health.
The company noted that Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Research Foundation, Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Children’s Tumor Foundation, JDRF, Melanoma Research Alliance, National Alopecia Areata Foundation and Parent Project Muscular Distropy are the OnPAR project’s funding organization pilot members.
Leidos added that OnPAR plans to add more foundations, pharmaceutical companies and other life sciences funding organizations as the program moves forward.
