satellite airforceU.S. Central Command has awarded an Intelsat subsidiary a contract to deliver Ku-band satellite services to support operations across Centcom’s areas of responsibility in North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia.

Intelsat General will work to provide Centcom up to 288 megahertz of Ku-band connectivity via the subsidiary’s satellite communications technology, the company said Monday.

Skot Butler, Intelsat General vice president of satellite networks and space services, said the subsidiary aims to support communications in remote areas within the CENTCOM AOR.

Services under the one-year contract — which has renewal option periods covering four years and six months — commenced in February, Intelsat General added.

U.S. Air Forces Central Command awarded a similar contract to Intelsat General in September for up to 144 megahertz of Ku-band connectivity.
