Inmarsat has been chosen to supply communications equipment to a group of British military personnel who will climb Mount Dhaulagiri in Nepal as part of a joint service medical research initiative.
The company said Tuesday the British Services Dhaulagiri Medical Research Expedition team will use six IsatPhone 2 phones, an IsatHub satellite connectivity terminal and four Broadband Global Area Network terminals for the group’s ascent.
The systems will work to help BSDMDRE participants to communicate with each other and transmit data to the U.K. in real time, Inmarsat noted.
The expedition, which is scheduled to begin Wednesday, aims to examine the effects of high altitude on the human body as well as train British military participants in a challenging environment.
At 26,795 feet, Dhaulagiri is said to be the seventh-highest mountain on Earth.
