The U.S. Navy has awarded Huntington Ingalls Industries a $618 million contract modification for work on DDG 123, the fourth Arleigh Burke-class that the company will build under a five-ship contract it won in June 2013.
HII said Wednesday its received about $55 million in funds from the Navy prior to the award of the modification that will extend the company’s construction services for the DDG 51 program through 2023.
HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division is currently building USS John Finn, USS Ralph Johnson, USS Paul Ignatius, USS Delbert D. Black and USS Frank E. Peterson Jr. destroyers.
To date, the company has built and delivered 28 Arleigh Burke-class ships to the Navy.
