Glynn Phillips: BAE Systems to Upgrade Australian Operational Radar Network

BAE Systems plans to upgrade parts of Australia’s Jindalee operational radar network (JORN) after the government approved the technology’s phase 6 upgrade in December 2015.

BAE Systems will submit its tender as a prime contractor for Project Air 2025 which will begin the upgrade in 2018, the company said Friday.

“We are currently working closely with the government and [Defense Science and Technology Group] to upgrade aspects of this critical technology in readiness for the major Phase 6 undertaking,” said Glynn Phillips, BAE Systems CEO.

JORN comprises of three radars located in Queensland, Western Australia and Northern Territory designed to provide wide area surveillance and support to the Australian Defense Force’s air and maritime operations, border surveillance, disaster relief and search and rescue missions.

“BAE Systems is totally committed to continuing its long term association with JORN,” Phillips said.

BAE Systems is also set to produce a multi-channel digital high frequency receiving system based on the JORN Phase 6 technology for the U.S. government.
