Information TechnologyGenesys Works has expanded its information technology internship program for high school students from low-income families to Northern Virginia and Washington D.C. metropolitan area.

The non-profit organization will collaborate with Fairfax County public schools to carry out the expansion which was made possible partly through AT&T‘s $500,000 contribution, Genesys said Monday.

George Newstrom, Dell Services Federal Government vice president and general manager and Genesys Works NCR founding board chair, said the program works to enable positive outcome for both students and employers by providing well-trained interns to the business community.

Genesy named the first six schools that will adopt the program which are Falls Church High School, South Lakes High School, Stuart High School, Mount Vernon High School, Lee High School and West Potomac High School.

Among Genesys’ current places of operation are Houston, Chicago, Twin Cities and the San Francisco Bay Area.

The organization noted that 94 percent of its former interns enroll in college while 84 percent pursue higher education after freshman year.

“With young Americans experiencing unemployment rates that are at least twice the national average, it’s essential that we empower today’s young people with the skills and work experiences to develop a mindset that they can succeed in corporate America and pursue a professional career” said Mahan Tavakoli, Genesys Works National Capital Region executive director.

Tavakoli added the collaboration with Fairfax County public schools will help the organization pursue their goal of providing job security to the youth.
