Dianne Guensberg, a 36-year veteran of the Government Accountability Office, has been appointed managing director of the public sector assurance practice at consulting and audit services firm Grant Thornton.
Guensberg will work with the firm’s audit clients in government, Grant Thornton said Tuesday.
“She brings more than 30 years of experience at GAO, a deep understanding of public sector accounting and auditing, and is extremely well-respected across the federal financial management community,†said Carlos Otal, national managing partner of Grant Thornton’s public sector business.
Guensberg most recently served as assistant director for the financial management and assurance team at GAO and oversaw audits of the Internal Revenue Service, U.S. Air Force and other federal agencies.
The certified public accountant helped oversee financial management issues during her time as a committee and subcommittee staff member in both chambers of Congress.
Guensberg is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, Virginia Society of CPAs and the accountancy executive advisory council at Northern Illinois University.
She was a former member of a task force under the Federal Accounting Standards Board that was responsible for drafting the Managerial Cost Accounting Standards for federal agencies.
