Purple Line Transit Partners — a team comprised of Fluor, Meridiam Infrastructure Purple Line and Star America Purple Line — has been chosen for the $2 billion Purple Line Light Rail Project in Maryland.
Fluor said Wednesday the team will provide design, construction, financing, operations and maintenance services to the Maryland Department of Transportation and the Maryland Transit Administration in support of the public-private project.
The team will employ the help of the design-build group Purple Line Transit Constructors, which includes Fluor, The Lane Construction Corporation and Traylor Bros. along with Atkins North America as the subcontractor and lead designer.
Design and construction work is scheduled to commence later this year and the light rail transit is projected to be passenger-ready by 2022, Fluor said.
The line will have 21 stations traversing 16 miles from Bethesda in Montgomery County to New Carrollton in Prince George’s County.
Fluor said a team called Purple Line Transit Operators joined by Fluor, Alternate Concepts and CAF USA will facilitate operations and maintenance for 30 years following construction.
