Esri showcased an open data-based ArcGIS geographic information system at a digital technology event that was held Monday at the White House.
The Expanding Opportunity with Open Data: A White House Demonstration event featured digital tools intended to help government agencies and the general public to access information about job openings or other opportunities at the neighborhood level, Esri said Monday.
The company demonstrated an ArcGIS-based tool that incorporates public data from the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Census Bureau as well as from the company’s Open Opportunity Data program.
The tool has generated interactive maps that show possible employment, transport and educational options for low-income families.
“Providing people with the ability to see this data on a map makes it easier for them to understand where opportunities exist in their neighborhoods,” said Jack Dangermond, Esri president and CEO.
Esri also seeks to develop new ArcGis-based tools intended to reorganize information models across multiple government data services and help users compare cross-jurisdictional programs.
