Cobham’s satellite communications business has teamed up with four companies to draft the Federal Aviation Administration supplemental type certificate to facilitate the use of the Aviator 300 SwiftBroadband system onboard Shenzhen Airlines’ Boeing 737-800 fleet
The Cobham-built Aviator 300 terminal has an intermediate gain antenna and works to support broadband connectivity with data transmission of up to 332 kbps, Cobham said Wednesday.
The partnership with Inmarsat, Southeast Aerospace, Delta G Design and China Trancomm also covers the development of the Civil Aviation Authority of China’s validation of the Supplemental Type Certificate for the system.
The certifications will allow the Aviator 300 platform to be integrated with Inmarsat’s SwiftBroadband Safety service to enable exchange of Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System messages and airline operational communications aboard the Boeing 737NG aircraft.
