CloseWatch has secured $1.49 million in a seed funding round from ECAP Holdings and a group of angel investors to further develop an analytics-based mobile application designed to help citizens report crimes to law enforcement agencies.
The CloseWatch-built iWatch mobile app works to classify tips of illegal activities and threats based on the FBI’s standard crime reporting codes through the intelligent tactical alert groups system, or iTAG, the company said Monday.
The U.S. Army has begun to deploy iWatch at more than 20 bases across the U.S. in an effort to support its campaign against crime and terrorism.
“In this post-9/11 world, citizens feel a strong desire to help protect against future attacks – and they are,†said Mike Malcolm of the Army Materiel Command’s protection division.
Addison, Texas-based CloseWatch produces and sells technology platforms for the personal and public safety markets.
