Booz Allen Hamilton and nonprofit organization Operation Homefront have named a 17-year-old girl from North Carolina as the first recipient of the Innovation Award for Military Children.
The award seeks to recognize children of uniformed personnel for their efforts to address local and global challenges through innovative projects, Booz Allen said Monday.
Elizabeth O’Brien from Aberdeen, North Carolina, won the award for her Military Child Access Assistance Program that seeks to provide accessibility ramps to homes of children that lack Tricare coverage.
“We’re proud to recognize the accomplishments of our military families,” said Laurie Gallo, an executive vice president at Booz Allen and a member of the board of directors at Operation Homefront.
“Elizabeth embodies the ideals we hope to see in all of our children — empathy, compassion, an ability to recognize and analyze a problem and not only propose a solution but implement it.”
O’Brien will get a $5,000 grant and will receive assistance from Booz Allen employees to help develop and implement her project.
Operation Homefront has more than 2,500 volunteers who work to provide emergency and financial support to families of military personnel and wounded soldiers.
