General Dynamics will provide lightweight two-channel radio technology to the U.S. Army through the company’s position on a potential $12.7 billion contract that the military service awarded on Feb. 26.
Bill Ross, a vice president at General Dynamics’ mission systems business, said Monday the company aims to help military personnel exchange and secure tactical communications with its an updated version of the AN/PRC-155 Manpack radio.
Ross added the Army deployed more than 5,000 company-built AN/PRC-155s to the branch’s 101st Airborne Division, 82nd Airborne Division and 10th Mountain Division.
The radio is designed to operate with a military communications infrastructure known as the Mobile User Objective System.
Harris Corp. and Rockwell Collins are the other awardees for the Army’s potential 10-year manpack radio development program.
