ASRC Federal has won a Small Business of the Year award from Lockheed Martin in recognition of the company’s work on a contract for NASA’s Orion spacecraft.
ASRC Federal’s space and defense business accepted the 2015 Rigel Award in February during a ceremony that was held to commemorate the arrival of the spacecraft’s pressure vessel at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, ASRC Federal said March 9.
Mark Gray, president and CEO of ASRC Federal and an inductee into Executive Mosaic‘s Wash100 for 2016, said the company considers the award a significant milestone to its partnership with Lockheed on the Orion space vehicle.
ASRC Federal’s space and defense business won a subcontract in 2012 from Lockheed, which acts as the primary contractor on the Orion contract, to build flight test vehicles for the spacecraft.
NASA plans to launch the Orion spacecraft with the Space Launch System for the Exploration Mission-1Â in 2018.
