TCSlogoTeleCommunication Systems has deployed its text-to-911 messaging service to more than 700 public safety answering points located in 38 U.S. states and territories.

The text-to-911 system works to help users send emergency messages to PSAPs via text telephone, direct Internet protocol and hypertext transfer protocol secure methods, TCS said Thursday.

Lynne Houserman, senior vice president of TCS’ safety and security group, said the company aims to provide “broad public safety support for text and multimedia capabilities as the evolution to next generation 9-1-1 continues.”

TCS estimates the service will support almost 100 million wireless subscribers by mid-2016.

The Federal Communications Commission has introduced a Text-to-911 Readiness and Certification Registry that offers a list of PSAPs that can receive emergency text messages, TCS noted.
