Northrop Grumman contributed $3.17 million worth of its Voyage Management System software to the U. S. Naval Academy Foundation to support midshipman training at the U.S. Naval Academy.
The company said Monday the donation of 135 software licenses seeks to improve the education and development of future U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps officers.
VMS software features the Electronic Chart Display and Information System-Navy and is used by the Navy on more than 200Â ships, submarines and facilities.
Ensign Eric Young also received the Elmer A. Sperry Junior Navigator of the Year Award presented by Northrop Grumman.
The honor serves to commend a member of the academy’s 2015 graduating class for his/her navigation skills and knowledge, the company said.
“Northrop Grumman is pleased and honored to continue our longtime partnership with the Naval Academy through the Naval Academy Foundation,” said Todd Leavitt, Northrop Grumman vice president for maritime systems business unit.
“It is our privilege to support the talented young men and women who will become this great nation’s future warfighters,” Leavitt added.
